Hemorrhoids are generally of two types Internal Hemorrhoids and External Hemorrhoids. While Bleeding Hemorrhoid can be either of the two types one of the major factors why the Hemorrhoids start to bleed is the protruding tissues and their blood vessels. There are several reasons why Hemorrhoids starts to bleed. A closer look into one of the Hemorrhoids will let us understand why this happens.
Internal hemorrhoids are those where the Hemorrhoids are formed above the dentate line. This line is the dividing factor between the upper part of the anal canal and the lower part. The upper part which is the inside part is connected with the rectum or the lower end of the large intestine. The lower part of the anal canal is connected with the anus. This is the opening which leads to the outside world. Everything that we eat gets processed inside a then come out from this opening.
Well, this basic concept cleared lest move on to a closer look of the Hemorrhoids themselves. Hemorrhoids are caused by the swelling of the tissues which are available around the anal canal. This area is well supplied with blood vessels and the tissues get filled with them when you are trying to pass the faeces. When you start to put too much pressure due to the hardness of the faeces or due to a pelvic tumor or chronic pulmonary diseases the blood vessels rupture and start to bleed. When they start to bleed, the direction of the blood flow can be two ways. One, they can move inwards the inside that is towards the rectum and two they can move towards the anus through the skin surrounding the anal canal.
During pregnancy a lot of women find that they bleeding while passing faeces. This is a common development. The tissues surrounding the anal canal are already under a lot of stress during pregnancy and any changes in pressure while passing stool can cause the blood vessels to rupture. Although this is common you should see your doctor and try and find out if you need medication or further examination.
People with pelvic tumors are also known to have internal Hemorrhoids. Again the reason is the presence of the tumor and the resulting pressure on the tissue and their blood vessels. There is also possibility that during the progress of age, the muscles that keep the Hemorrhoid tissues in place may become weaker and during the passing of stool and the exerting of force, they become ruptured. This explains why people in their late 40’s and early 50’s start developing this problem. Even people in their 30’s are known to have this problem, while there are not many examples of people in their teens having this problem.
Generally internal Hemorrhoids are not painful. However if they bulge out of the anus they can become very painful. Each time they are squeezed by the muscles of the anus you will feel the pain. Even during passing stool they pain is intolerable and can even make the patient afraid of passing stool.
